In many cultures throughout the world, the elders, the GRANDMOTHERS, are the ones who are looked upon as the guardians over the physical and spiritual survival of family and tribe. GRANDMOTHERS are the keepers of rituals, wisdom, caring, strength and love. In 2004 THIRTEEN GRANDMOTHERS from the four corners of the earth gathered at a retreat center in upstate New York, and created the INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF THIRTEEN INDIGENOUS GRANDMOTHERS.
Their mission: to form an alliance “of prayer, education and healing for our MOTHER EARTH all her inhabitants, all the children, and for the next seven generations to come.”
Since their first gathering, the GRANDMOTHERS have traveled the world meeting with the great and the humble to speak from the heart in order to educate people to “wake up from our sleep before Mother Earth begins shaking.” These extraordinary women are connected to the earth through generations of those who have always lived lightly so that the next generations will be able to receive the earth’s bounties.
Each grandmother, in addition to being shamans, medicine women, keepers of the wisdom of their ancestors, is highly educated in the ways and problems of modern life. They are midwives, graduate students, published poets and authors, researchers in cross-cultural problems of Traumatic Stress Syndrome. Others work on problems specific to their tribes. All are social activists in the causes of peace and justice, and in saving Mother Earth.
We, in Central New York , are fortunate to host the GRANDMOTHERS both in Groton and in Ithaca for spiritual, educational and community building events. The Women’s Gathering of Groton has created “THE GRANDMOTHERS SPEAK” project in an effort to inspire us to renew and save our one and only precious Earth.
There are still expenses that need to be covered with regard to the Grandmothers Speak event. It was an enormous success. Those of us closely involved, and I think I can speak for most of those people, are likely to never be the same again. Please consider donating to help us clear the books and not be saddled with out of pocket expenses.
Thank you in advance for your generosity. Donations for the Grandmothers are made through the Center for Sacred Studies, the 501(c)3 under which the Grandmothers to their work.
Unfortunately, with the way this site is set up, we were unable to insert a "donate" paypal button here. In order to allow you to donate the amount that you wish, you must change the QUANTITY, not the AMOUNT. For example, if you wish to donate $100, change the quantity to 20 (20 x 5 = 100). This is not the way we would have liked to set this up, but we have no choice. If you would like additional help, drop an email, we will be back in touch immediately.
OR, please print, complete and submit the form below with your tax-deductible contribution.
